Our amazing resident May Mills was ‘over the moon’ when we arranged an afternoon of live music to mark her 100th birthday including the Blue Moon Waltz – one of her favourite tunes. The centenarian impressed everyone with her dance moves as she shared her advice for living a long and healthy life: “to be determined and always keep body and mind active.”
Home manager Heather de-Ninis said: “May had a wonderful time singing along to the songs – she knows all the words! She is a wonderful lady and we are privileged to have her with us here.”
May enjoyed socially-distanced visits from her family in the morning and was later presented with a birthday card from the Queen.
Married, during the war to late husband Bob, the couple were together for 72 years. They moved to Bookham in 1961, where they lived as active members of the community. May and Bob were very involved in the local community, including with Bookham Baptist Church and with the Brownies, Guides and Scouts – taking their children, Pam and David, along to many events and camping trips. The pair were also regular swimmers and keen dancers – winning many trophies.
Many Happy Returns, May!
