Charity creates dementia guide for housing

A Midlands-based charity has launched a guide to help housing organisations improve support for older people living with dementia.

Compiled by the Orbit Charitable Trust, the guide, which is mainly aimed at small housing associations but could also be useful for larger housing providers, suggests how social landlords can work alongside care, charity and community partners to help dementia sufferers maintain their independence while also improving their quality of life.

With an estimated 800,000 people currently living with dementia in the UK and this number set to rise to over one million by 2021, initiatives such as this are clearly needed. It’s an example of the many schemes which are ongoing to enhance the treatment of both those in dementia care homes in Oxford and elsewhere, as well as those living at home.

The release of this guide comes after extensive research by the organisation which highlighted the need to enhance levels of dementia awareness among housing providers.
