National Carers Week 2016

Here at Queen Elizabeth Park, we see first hand on a daily basis the hard work and dedication of our care team. National Carer’s Week provides us with the perfect opportunity to say a huge “thank you” to the staff that fill Queen Elizabeth Park with love and laughter.

National Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make in their communities. At Queen Elizabeth Park, carers truly are at the heart of what we do and we love to show them our appreciation; so much so that our efforts are regularly recognised at the Great British Care Awards leading us to win ‘Care Employer of the Year’ on multiple occasions.

Following tradition, the week kicked off with a surprise visit from the local ice-cream van and staff even got to enjoy their sweet treats in the sunshine (this was short-lived – it is England after all!). The following day, our team took a well-earned break for some luxurious spa treatments including massages and manicures. So seldom do carers get to ‘take five’ and relax, making this pamper session all the more worthwhile.

To round off the week… Delivery time! Carers working throughout the day had to make the tough decision of which Krispy Kreme doughnut to sample, after receiving a huge selection sent to us by Head Office. On the night shift, staff enjoyed pizza galore courtesy of Domino’s, which we can safely say were devoured rather speedily. Our residents joined in every step of the way, with many of them finding their own little ways to say “thank you”.

At Queen Elizabeth Park we consider all our staff, right through from the nurses to the cleaners, to be carers. Each and every one of them plays a vital role in creating the warm, welcoming environment enjoyed by the residents under our roof; they deserve to be celebrated.
