This year we decided to show our appreciation for all the amazing individuals and organisations who have supported us throughout 2020 by painting 100 bespoke rainbow Christmas decorations and sending them out to the local community.
The rainbows, painted by residents, with help from the care team, were distributed with personalised messages of thanks. One recipient, Julie Malone, who visits regularly to help with care training, said: “I will be hanging my rainbow on my Christmas tree with pride and am looking forward to explaining who gave it to me. Honey Lane is so close to my heart.”
Rainbows were also sent to keyworkers in the community. These included the local Tesco store and the Royal Artisan Bakery, who sent foodie treats, and a local lady, Gillian Allum, who had learned to knit during the first lockdown and sent us beautiful blankets.
The Plough Pub, Sewardstone Road, sent the fresh food they had in stock when they were forced to close. It was shared between the team who were working and unable to get the shops. Zara Maskell from The Plough said: “We received a lovely surprise from our local care home this morning. A rainbow painted by the residents saying thank you for your support through lockdown. It’s now in pride of place on our tree.”
Home Manager Jacky Fitzpatrick said: “We were overwhelmed by the kindness shown by our community during this challenging year. So, it’s been a real labour of love for our residents and staff to give back to all of those who have supported us so wonderfully.”
