Former train driver and Brooklands resident Keith had his long-standing wish granted when our team organised a surprise trip for him aboard the Poppy Line.
As a boy, Keith regularly rode on local steam trains in the Dagenham area and after long service in the Royal Marines, he became a freight train driver in the 1970s.
During the visit, Keith was invited into the cab to fulfil his lifelong dream of being a steam train driver. He said: “I’ve driven many trains but never had the chance to be in a steam train’s engine cabin until today. It was so exciting and brought back the years of my youth. It was wonderful!”
The journey from Holt to Sheringham took around half an hour and Keith enjoyed every minute of the journey. He was delighted to share his adventure with a group of friends and fellow residents.
Our Home Manager, Julia Chapman-Wright said: “It was a real pleasure to organise this surprise trip for Keith and lovely to see him and the other residents enjoying it so much”.
