Bramley Court opened its doors to the community by hosting a Dementia Action Week in partnership with a local charity.

The awareness week was designed to show people living with dementia, they don’t have to experience it alone. Visitors had the chance to explore the sensory gardens, and participate in a range of activities.

The home worked alongside Histon and Impington Friends who organise a wealth of fundraising initiatives in the area to provide dementia, bereavement and mental health support.

“It was a wonderful week at the home, we had lots of fun and we were delighted to open our doors to the community and show them all the support we can offer on finance options, legal matters, and funding for care” said head of quality Carol Morgan.

“We really wanted this to be about partnership with groups in the local area and inviting people in to show them that if you or someone you love is living with dementia, you don’t have to experience it alone.

“We’ve always prided ourselves on offering training, advice, support to the families of our residents and people who care for loved ones in the community.”

Namaste massage taster sessions were enjoyed by friends and family, offering them a moment of relaxation, fun activities like hula hooping were held in the garden and visitors were able to share their own journeys of supporting loved ones living with dementia.

Julie, a community dementia support worker, said: “Every time I come to Bramley Court, I learn something new. It just feels like home to me.”

Care home manager Judith Wroe emphasised the importance of community engagement at the home and the importance of improving the lives of people living with dementia.

“Throughout the week, we have been offering our knowledge in practical areas and it was really important for us to come together with our partners at Histon and Impington Friends for our Dementia Action Week,” she said.

“We are really proud of the dementia care we provide and the ways in which we are continually looking for ways develop or care and share our knowledge with the community.

“We want to share our passion for raising awareness, challenging the stigma around dementia, and having fun while offering support and providing a space where people can share their experiences.”
