Bramley’s Swim for Dementia

Bramley’s Swim for Dementia zoom

Our residents, Joan, Stella and Pamela, all aged in their 80’s, have recently gone to get lengths to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. Together with senior nurse Jade Proudfoot, they swam 10 miles over 30 days at the Spirit Health Club Cambridge by taking part in the #SwimForDementia challenge. They raised over £800, beating their £500 target!

Joan, formerly a nurse at Addenbrooke’s Hospital had not been swimming for around 30 years. She was, however, a keen wild swimmer in rivers and the sea in her younger years.

Jade says: “Dementia care is a huge passion of mine and exercise is important for people who live with a dementia. So, it’s been wonderful to complete some of the swims with our residents – especially Joan who used to so love swimming, but hasn’t been in the water for many, many years.”

Our manager, Judith Wroe adds: “We want our residents to live their very best lives. So, this challenge has been a great way for us all to get active together and raise money for a cause close to all our hearts.”

Please join us in congratulating our intrepid swimmers! We are hugely proud of them all.
