Dimple Jose, a nurse who works at Ashbrook Court Care Home, has won The Good Nurse Award at the London Care Awards (part of the Great British Care Awards). Dimple received her award at a Gala dinner held at the Hilton London Bankside Hotel on Saturday January 30th 2016.
The purpose of the awards overall are to pay tribute to those individuals and teams who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
The Good Nurse Award acknowledges the important role that specialist nurses have in promoting the emotional, physical, psychological and social health of the people who they support.
Dimple has been the clinical lead at Ashbrook Court for nearly ten years, managing a complex unit for people in the later stages of dementia.
Louise Baxter, manager of Ashbrook Court, says: “End of life care for people with dementia can be very tough. But Dimple successfully combines her skills as a nurse with her ability as a carer, enabling people with very challenging behaviours and communications issues to live as content and full a life as possible.
“But beyond her exemplary care for our residents, Dimple is notable for her particular care of the residents’ families, for whom the latter stages of dementia in a loved one can be a distressing experience. She receives countless accolades from relatives for the work she does. We are all very proud of her here at Ashbrook Court. She thoroughly deserves this award”.
The judges were impressed with the way in which Dimple combines the best of clinical skills with a caring approach, evidenced by many of her patients being able to live their lives in the homely atmosphere of Ashbrook, rather than in a long stay psychiatric setting.
Louise adds: “Constantly supportive, positive and optimistic, Dimple leads her team by example – demonstrating exactly what exemplary care looks like and encouraging those who work with her to regard looking after those with dementia as a privilege.”
