Aidan Wilkinson, a care assistant at Alderwood, has won a Heart of Gold Award at a ceremony on 15th November. Aidan has worked at the care home since 2011.
The Awards seek to recognise employees for their dedication and commitment in providing high quality care and compassion to all the home’s residents.
Nikki Leaney, manager of Alderwood said, “Aidan has improved his skills every year since he has been with us. But above all it is the kindness and compassion he shows to the residents he cares for – many of whom are at end of life stage – that is so remarkable. He goes above and beyond in everything. He is an inspiration, never failing to smile and give exceptional care. He is highly respected by his peers and is an excellent role model for new staff coming into caring. He truly has a heart of gold.”
Aidan was presented with an Emporio Armani watch to commemorate his success by Rahim Dhanani, Executive Director of Carebase.
Nominations for the award came from residents and their relatives, co-workers, social workers and local health professionals. Aidan was chosen from the list of nominations by a panel of previous Heart of Gold award winners from all the other homes in Alderwoods group.
Aidan said, “I am truly shocked but delighted to be nominated this year’s Heart of Gold ambassador. I am so privileged to work at Alderwood with the residents and the team – it is such a fantastic team of people. It’s very important to me to make sure all the residents are really well cared for, and that’s a team effort. So I want to thank everyone for everything they do and all their support.
Altogether there were 50 nominees for the award at Alderwood and all nominees received a Heart of Gold lapel pin.
