A passionate gardener who loved visiting the coast has celebrated her 100th birthday with her family and the team at Claremont Court.
The team, which caters exclusively for residents living with dementia and advanced dementia, decorated the home in a seaside theme for June Osborne to mark the special occasion.
Her lifelong love of the seaside comes from her time living in Bognor Regis where she was often found riding a tandem to the beach with her late husband.
“It was a wonderful day and we are so grateful to the team at Claremont Court for organising such a special day for Mum,” said daughter Julie, who was with June on the day.
“Mum has always loved the seaside which is why she wanted to spend her retirement in Bognor Regis, enjoying the fresh sea air and tending to her beloved garden.
“She has always kept active, going on bike rides along the coast, being outside in the garden and enjoying the outdoors and it was so special to be able to celebrate this milestone with her.”
June had two children with her husband, who she met at an ice rink in Richmond, and the pair did everything together from 1945 until his passing in 2014.
The team at the home organised a sea-themed celebration, complete with coral cutouts, tissue paper decorations, and a fish mobile above her bed.
Her room was adorned with balloons and banners for the milestone event and the home’s chef prepared a beautiful birthday cake which June enthusiastically enjoyed.
“We were delighted to celebrate June’s 100th birthday and the team did a wonderful job in decorating the home in a theme that resonates so deeply with her,” said care home manager Karen Byres.
“June couldn’t wait to have a slice of the delicious cake that the kitchen team prepared for her.
“We always make our residents’ birthdays special occasions, celebrating the things that are important to them as individuals which is always a key thing for us here at Claremont Court.
“June’s communication is limited now but the joy and excitement she showed on the day was visible and it was a heartwarming experience for all of us.”
