Life at The Spinney residential and dementia care home in Chingford, London is not just about being in safe hands, thanks to the exceptional care provided by a fully-qualified team. It is about enjoying life to the fullest and the extensive programme of weekly planned activities organised each day means that your loved one can pick and choose to their heart’s content. From arts and crafts to bingo and keep fit, there’s something to suit all tastes.

Plenty of fun, lots of laughter and friends for life makes time at the Spinney a truly wonderful experience. Coupled with an elegant environment which includes bar, lounge and dining areas – and delicious food means that friends and family can even find it hard to leave.

A vital factor in this is the staff who make extra efforts to integrate every new resident into the home. They are not part of the fixtures and fittings, but family-orientated individuals that play a vital role in everyday life. This could be anything from reading a newspaper with one resident to giving another a pampering manicure to simply having a coffee and a chat.

Day trips are organised each week both locally and further afield. A recent visit to Bethnal Green Toy Museum proved very popular and the residents can never get enough of trips to local garden centres.

Carebase has a wonderful ethos which is one of the things that attracted me to the role. Everyone shows such extraordinary compassion and are genuinely passionate about caring for the elderly. The Spinney has a warm and friendly environment and I really enjoy being able to help others – it’s a very fulfilling job.

Carol Kendle, Administrator

The Spinney is located in a beautiful spot, overlooking the Chingford golf course on one side and a vast forested area on the other. The home itself houses sensory gardens and patios, full of vibrant colour and fragrance. It features a lovely pagoda and conservatory, which residents particularly enjoy on sunny days.

Our staff have a thorough understanding of each resident thanks to a comprehensive individual care plan that is updated and reviewed all the time. We know their history, we know their likes and dislikes, we know their favourite food and special dietary requirements and we know their care needs.

Our residents have mostly lived their life in the surrounding area so it’s important that we forge close local links so they still feel part of the community. We have a priest from a nearby church come in to perform a service, for example, and a local school entertaining residents with end-of-term singing. We take our residents shopping on the local high street and fill them in on the local news.

    Dear Juliette and Team

I just thought I should put in writing my thanks and appreciation for all the hard work and dedication provided to Rose Gibbs during her 8-year stay at The Spinney.

She moved into The Spinney for one week’s respite care in 2005 and as she was made to feel so welcome and at home she decided she wanted to stay.

From then on the staff became her extended family helping her in any way they could. During my many visits to The Spinney over the years I have only ever experienced the staff giving excellent care to the residents. The professional care and incredible devotion by you and many members of your team during Rose’s stay was exceptionally outstanding – she couldn’t have been in a better place or with more friendly people.

My appreciation extends to all the staff at The Spinney – I only hope that you are all still around if I ever need a care home!

    Yours sincerely,
    Close friend of Rose Gibbs
